Alta Oakridge in beautiful Raleigh, NC is hosting the Raleigh Gingerbread House Competition, featuring a delightful display of houses created by kids, adults and groups. This is one of those rare competitions offering cash prizes, so you actually have a chance to earn back some of the costs incurred in making your gingerbread masterpiece! (Thank goodness Halloween comes before Christmas, right? It's good to recycle as much of that candy as possible.)
Be sure to submit your completed entry form for your gingerbread house by November 18. Houses must be dropped off by November 24. The Grand Award Ceremony, where $1,000 will be distributed among winners, will be held December 12.
The 2009 Raleigh Gingerbread House Competition display of houses is a free event open to the public for viewing from November 27, 2009 through January 3, 2010. Hours are 9 am - 5 pm at Alta Oakridge, a luxury independent living retirement community in North Raleigh.
Construction requirements and contest rules (edible only!) are available here.
